Embrace Change
I'm a REALTOR, but that describes my trade group more than it describes me. In fact, that's a lot of my labels.
I'm a Dad, but that's not a passive, sessile existence with a channel-changer in one hand and a brew in the other. Although sometimes there is a brew. I have no idea what kind of world my children will live in when they're my age. So I'm as present as possible to today.
I'm a Christian by faith, but something weird is happening to "The Way" of nearly 2 billion people. I'm a believe due to first-hand experience that something must change in how the faith is described and lived, and as Rob Bell says "everything is spiritual." There is no compartmentilizing "my Jesus time" from my "Daddy time" from my "work time".
I'm a REALTOR, but I'm also a Democrat. And both of these don't describe my professional habits no more my political beliefs. We spend far too much time defending property rights and making politically correct power structures and not alleviating poverty, not increasing affordability, not increasing sustainability, not creating community.
So that's what I'm NOT.
I am a loose collection of particles as my buddy Andy just told me. I don't believe in Chaost Theory or Quantum Mechanics... I get to periodically live them in the flesh, and that doesn't take much faith to believe in.
I believe in wonder. There is far too little of that, and it's nearly impossible to create. It is readily available to breathe in however.
I'm a believer in wide-open public spaces. You don't need to own it, but the citizenry needs a right of trespass.
I believe in wet wading.
I believe in innovation, even faith-ovation. God doesn't change, but he sure orchestrates a lot of other changes.
I believe love has no room for agendas. I believe that is there is one thing we can create, and must create, more and more of... it is love.
